Overview
The MA in Business Translation and Intercultural Communication in English and Spanish is the result of a collaboration between the School of Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures at Maynooth University and the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences at the University of Deusto in Bilbao, Spain. The proposed programme offers students a variety of modules relating to translation, intercultural communication, business and organisational culture. The course will be ideally suited to graduates who are already proficient in English and Spanish, and who wish to maximise the applicability of these linguistic competencies to the demands of the contemporary international business workplace, including (but not limited to) the practice of applied translation.
The programme also offers prospective students unique opportunities for international mobility and relevant international work experience. Students will complete their first semester at Maynooth University, where they will take a variety of modules in Translation and Business; following this, they will relocate to Bilbao, where they will complete their second semester at the University of Deusto, taking a variety of additional modules that will complement and build upon the modules taken at Maynooth. Having completed both semesters of taught modules, students will then complete a three-month work placement at a company or organisation located in Ireland or Spain. This final component of the programme will be complemented by the completion of a final report and a viva voce exam, which will give students the opportunity to reflect upon their work placement in the context of the overall programme content and objectives.
