Overview

The programme is offered by the Centre for Irish Cultural Heritage, School of Celtic Studies. It provides an inter-disciplinary evaluation of early Irish cultural history with particular emphasis on archaeological, literary, historical and linguistic evidence. Field experiences are a core component of this study and this will include on-site considerations of key monuments such as the UNESCO World Heritage sites of Newgrange and Knowth, the Hill of Tara and the monastic settlement of Clonmacnoise.

This 20 credit certificate on Irish Cultural Heritage is available to students visiting Maynooth University for a single semester or for the full academic year. It also available to those not currently studying at the university.


Course structure

The programme is delivered through a combination of lectures, field trips, field seminars, workshops and tutorials. Students take one core module, ID001 Introducing Irish Cultural Heritage and choose a further three optional ones. The certificate can be completed in a single semester or over the full academic year. Please see Course Finder for module options for each semester/year. Students will be required to participate in field trips to sites such as Newgrange, Clonmacnoise, Hill of Tara etc
