The BBS International Business and Global Cultures degree features a work placement/study abroad option. This lets you put theory into practice, strengthening your employability after graduating.

A unique combination: Business and Anthropology

This programme combines expertise from Ireland's youngest School of Business and the only Department of Anthropology in the Republic of Ireland. You'll be taught by a diverse faculty of international and local experts with insights into the real-world complexities of business and global cultures.

Transfer option from MH101

There is a transfer option to this degree in second year for students who have completed the first year of the Bachelor of Arts degree (MH101), taking business subjects and Anthropology.

How it works

Choose your first year mix

Pick 2–4 subjects from six timetable groups, with a maximum of one subject per group. Some subjects have a 30-credit option or a beginners’ route.

Shape your pathway in year 2

Decide whether to keep studying two subjects (Double Major), focus on one (Single Major), or balance both (Major/Minor).

Progress to specialist degrees or study abroad

Your subject choices can lead to named degrees, professional routes, or an Erasmus or international year abroad.

Learn flexibly, supported by experts

Enjoy a flexible timetable, small-group teaching, and guidance from the Programme Advisory Office as you build your own degree.

Course structure

Duration: 3 years (BBS) or 4 years (BBA)

Duration: 3 years (4 years with optional placement or Erasmus/study abroad)First year

Your chosen business subject will equal 30 credits, giving you solid foundational knowledge.

You will also take 30 global cultures credits to develop your intercultural skills and understanding of human diversity.

Second year

Second year is about learning the functional capabilities of your business subject, including some optional choices.

You will also learn how to systematically observe, interpret and describe the world around you.

Optional additional year

You may choose to complete a work placement or study abroad for a year between second and final year. This means you’ll graduate after the fourth year.

The University will support you in the search for a job placement, although the process is competitive.

Final year

In this year, you will build your understanding of how to run a business or service at a strategic level, while developing advanced skills in your chosen business subject.

You will also explore how the transnational flows of culture, ideas, media, technology and finance shape people’s lives.

Leaving Certificate applicants are required to present (as a minimum): 2H5 and 4O6/H7, O6/H7 in Irish, English and O4/H7 Mathematics.

Mature Applicants

Mature applicants are assessed separately to school-leavers. Mature applicants are 23 years or older by 1st January in the year of entry to the University. For part-time/flexible degrees the mature age is 21.

Transfer option available into this degree from the Bachelor of Arts Degree MH101 - subject to meeting requirements.
